The Queen’s Grandson-In-Law Says Bodyguards Pinned Him To The Ground After A Harmless Joke

Bodyguards will do anything to protect the royal person they’re looking out for. Mike Tindall, grandson-in-law to the Queen, found this out the hard way when he made a silly joke in the presence of Prince Harry. Next thing he knew he’d been pinned to the ground. No one messes with a prince — even it if is just for a laugh.

Royal titles

Mike Tindall is married to Harry’s cousin, Zara Tindall, the daughter of Princess Anne. He’s been her husband since 2011, and they have three kids together: Mia, Lena, and Lucas. None of the family have royal titles, since Anne chose to not give her children any when they were born.

Class issues

But Zara was still a royal by birth, title or not. And at first, Mike Tindall may have seemed an odd choice for a royal to marry. He was the son of a social worker and a banker, rich enough to go to university but not an aristocrat like so many previous royal spouses had been. He was a champion rugby player, though.

Party lads

During his time dating Zara, Mike also gained a reputation for being a hard-drinking “party boy” — of course, Prince Harry was the same back then. As soon as the media learned about Zara and Mike, all sorts of information came out, including that he’d been convicted for driving under the influence before.

Forward planning

Mike gave an in-depth interview to the Daily Mail newspaper the month before his wedding to Zara, answering some questions about whether he was up to the job of being a royal spouse. Asked if he was worried about “what he might be getting into” he said, “I’m never a forward planner. I don’t think that far ahead.”
