Patrick Mahomes Has Big Plans For Spending His Millions

The money flying around at the top levels of world sport is enough to blow anyone’s mind. That’s why the net worth of NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes — the highest-paid sports star in history — is so especially stunning. You’d think that someone with so many millions in the bank could do literally anything, but you may be surprised by some of the ways that the Super Bowl star has chosen to spend it.

The history-making deal

Mahomes made history in July 2020 when he became the first athlete — from any sport — to sign a deal worth over half a billion dollars. Assuming everything goes to plan, his ten-year extension with the Kansas City Chiefs will see him earn $503 million. It’s an eye-watering amount of money, but here’s the thing: nobody questioned it. Not the fans. Not NFL insiders. Nobody.

“Everybody agrees he’s the best”

At the time, Mina Kimes of ESPNs Highly Questionable, said, “That’s what I love about this whole topic and story, is how unimpeachable Pat Mahomes is. We’re going to do this whole thing again when Dak Prescott gets his deal. And it’s going to be a big debate — ‘Is Dak Prescott elite? Is he actually worth it?’ We don’t have to have that debate with Mahomes. Everybody agrees he’s the best.”

“Not many people on the planet can do what he does”

According to former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Jason Bell, Mahomes is simply that special. In his BBC column, Bell wrote, “It’s supply and demand in its simplest form. There’s not many people on the planet that can do what he can, [who have] that kind of skill set.” He added, “The quarterback position is the number-one position on the field in football, they’re the highest-paid players, and he’s the best, so he sets the market.”

He’s taken over the NFL

Indeed, Mahomes’ prodigious talent saw him win the NFL’s MVP award in his very first season as a starting quarterback. He then won the Super Bowl in his second season — and was voted MVP of the match. Even though his talent was obvious, having quite the impact he has is still comparatively rare, with Bell admitting, “I don't think anybody thought it would be like this and he’d take over the league the way he has.”
