This woman asked The Oprah Winfrey Show to makeover her scruffy-looking boyfriend. The extent of his incredible transformation, however, has to be seen to be believed.

The audience cheered as Josh walked out onto the stage after his makeover. However, his girlfriend, who had been pushing for his style shake-up, seemed totally shocked: indeed, he now looked like a totally different person. And when Josh’s story went viral, others simply couldn’t believe the difference between his before-and-after photos, either.

When Josh and Heidi had first met, though, Josh sported long hair and a full beard. And, at that time, Heidi was rather a fan of his unreconstructed style. When talking to The Oprah Winfrey Show, however, Heidi did nevertheless reveal that she had been a little nervous about kissing him for the first time – mainly because she “didn’t know where his mouth was.”

And since their initial encounter, Josh had continued to grow his hair and beard – resulting in what can only be described as a “caveman” look. Whenever Heidi suggested trimming his beard, though, Josh only allowed her to take off an inch or so. He was proud of his hair and wanted to keep it long.

Having spent his younger years in the army, Josh first made the decision to let all his hair grow out once he was finished serving his country. And, by 2009, Josh had lasted years and years without a single haircut. What’s more, he’d completely given up shaving his facial hair.

But unfortunately for Josh, his girlfriend had started to grow tired of how he chose to present himself. Indeed, Heidi told The Oprah Winfrey Show that while she did actually like how Josh looks, she just wished that he was “a little less… hairy.” But that wasn’t all that she wanted to change about him.

That’s because Heidi also took issue with Josh’s fashion sense. His normal day-to-day outfit would consist of a plain white T-shirt, jeans and practical boots – even when the couple went out for a date, according to Heidi. So, she decided it was time for The Oprah Winfrey Show to step in.

In fact, even Josh dared the producers to turn his appearance around; they gladly accepted the challenge, however. Then, eventually, it was time for Heidi to hand her boyfriend over to the team of stylists and hair and make-up specialists to see what they could do with her caveman.

Then after Josh and Heidi’s appearance on the show, a video clip of the style transformation was uploaded to YouTube. And perhaps because the before-and-after shots of Josh were so jaw-dropping, the video quickly gathered more than one million views. It also sparked quite the frenzy of activity in the comments section.

It had been famous fashion consultant Tim Gunn who had been in control of the makeover, moreover. But before Gunn brought out Josh for the big reveal, he explained to the audience how the formerly hairy man had been very apprehensive. “He was very, very trepidatious about the entire thing. And we had to really do a little therapy during the grooming,” Gunn said.

And prior to Josh’s new look being revealed, the audience were shown pictures of his long, dark hair, his thick beard and casual clothing, just as a reminder of what the makeover team had had to work with. But while Winfrey had previously described Josh’s look as “Biblical,” would she say the same after the reveal?

Heidi, meanwhile, sat nervously in the audience, waiting to see what the team had done to her hairy boyfriend. Then, with the audience’s anticipation rising, it was finally time to bring the “new Josh” out onto the stage. And with that, an elegantly dressed man strutted confidently into the spotlight.

Upon seeing him, however, Heidi couldn’t believe her eyes. Was this really her boyfriend standing on the Oprah Winfrey Show stage? Indeed, her mouth was wide open as she furiously applauded along with the entire audience. There were whoops and cheers coming from every direction – and they were all for the handsome new Josh.

Even Winfrey herself was astounded by what her team had managed to do to Josh’s appearance. Not only had the previously “Biblical”-looking Josh had most of his hair cut off, but his beard was also neatly trimmed. His standard look of a white T-shirt and blue jeans was long gone as well.

Instead, Josh was wearing a very chic outfit indeed: the jeans were still all present and correct, but they were teamed with a smart shirt, red sweater and brown leather jacket. And, to top off the look, Heidi’s boyfriend sported a brand new pair of stylish boots.

Then, when asked how he was post-makeover, Josh told Winfrey that he felt just “like a new man.” And there’s no doubt that he looked like one, too. Gunn even joked that before the team tamed Josh’s mane, he looked like “Grizzly Adams as a prophet.”

Yet despite joking about Josh’s beard, the fashion guru told Winfrey’s audience that he never wanted to totally get rid of his facial hair. That’s because he felt it was important to stay true to Josh’s personality while also helping him to make the most of himself.

Indeed, Gunn went on to say that the most straightforward way to make Josh look better would have been to shave his beard and put him in a tuxedo. But instead of doing that, Gunn had managed to make Josh look “polished and sophisticated” while still allowing him to keep his practical boots.

Finally, though, it was time to hear what Heidi thought – and it was immediately obvious that Josh’s new style was a hit with her. “He looks great,” she said on the show. “This is exactly what I’ve been trying to get him to do.” She was particularly pleased that he’d been able to keep some of his beard.

In fact, she even told Winfrey that she “couldn’t get over” how good her boyfriend looked. “Thank you, Tim!” she called across the room at Gunn, with a huge smile on her face. And it was clear as a result that both Josh and Heidi were very satisfied customers.

So, while there’s no doubt that Josh was already a good-looking guy before the makeover, his experience proves that that some people need a little extra help to make the most of what they’ve already got. Thankfully, though, The Oprah Winfrey Show was ready to step in and turn Josh into a suave and sophisticated man.
