Movie Buffs Rated The Funniest Movies Of All Time, And We’re Cracking Up At The Results

Do you know which movie lead uses homemade hair gel? Or which fraudulent friends made money creating the worst play ever? If so, you’ll have some idea which Hollywood hard-hitters are on our list of some of the funniest movies of all time. Hold on to your sides — they’re about to split, and we mean that in a good way.

To make our very own ranking, we compiled the Rotten Tomatoes scores, the Metacritic scores, and the IMDb scores for the world’s most beloved comedies. We then figured out the average score for each flick and ranked them accordingly. Any ties are split by the Rotten Tomatoes score. But enough talking: let’s see who made the final cut.

40. Scary Movie (2000)

Our rating: 51.3

Leading roles: Anna Faris, John Abrahams, Marlon Wayans

Gross profit: $278,019,771 (worldwide)

Scary Movie unashamedly pokes fun at its era’s horror movies in the most outrageous and dumbest way possible, but you won’t be able to stop yourself laughing. It’s good clean fun — okay, it’s mostly dirty fun, but there are some jokes about vacuum cleaners in there. Plus, there’s so many Easter Eggs featured it’s like being visited by an incontinent Easter Bunny.

39. The Nutty Professor (1996)

Our rating: 56.5

Leading roles: Eddie Murphy, Jada Pinkett Smith, James Coburn

Gross profit: $273,961,019 (worldwide)

Comedy veteran Eddie Murphy not only stars as the titular obese mad academic, but also the prof’s entire family and his mean, thin alter ego too. If you think that’s impressive, think about how he managed to do so in good spirits after spending three hours in makeup each day! It was worth it, though — the movie won ten awards including an Oscar for its aforesaid cosmetics efforts.

38. Kingpin (1996)

Our rating: 57.8

Leading roles: Woody Harrelson, Randy Quaid, Bill Murray

Gross profit: $25,023,434 (worldwide)

Because Kingpin was released alongside some other comedy blockbusters, it’s often overlooked. But you’ll find a lot to laugh out loud at in this ridiculous tale of an Amish bowling prodigy and his one-handed coach. As you’d expect from a movie about balls, it features plenty of adult humor, so if that sounds like your thing Kingpin will be right up your alley.

37. Happy Gilmore (1996)

Our rating: 61.8

Leading roles: Adam Sandler, Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen

Gross profit: $41,205,099 (worldwide)

If you think there’s nothing funny about golf, Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore will surprise you. Sandler plays Happy, a hockey player with anger problems discovering his talent for golf. But if that doesn’t sway you, what if we were to tell you Bob Barker accepted his role in the movie when he found out he wins a fight with Sandler’s character? It’s all in the hips.
